I woke up that morning automatically excited. Today was my first day at Cardigan! I immediately got up and got ready then finished packing my bags, which I started the night before. I was on the second session of the trip which was on September 28th to the 30th, and I had been waiting for this day for a while. Finally it was time to leave and I hopped into my moms car and we drove to the school. When we got there, the first thing I saw was Mr.Woolner in his crazy shirt that reminded me of Hawaii and a trailer attached to his car. I said goodbye to my mom then threw my stuff in the trailer. I was the first one there so I stood and waited for more people. I saw other kids getting out of their parents cars and walking into the school. Ha, I get to go to Cardigan and you guys do not, I thought. Eventually, more people came and I stood with my friends and talked while we waited for the bus. Finally it came and my friend, Annalise, and I sat together close to the back of the bus. Everyone was going crazy, they were so loud I could hardly hear myself talk. Anna and I talked the whole way there; at one point I got hungry and ate some M & Ms. The bus driver got really mad at everybody because we would not sit still.

An hour later, we got to the lodge and met some of the consolers,Toby, Fern and Andy. They told us about the lodge and we played some fun games, like a version of Sharks and Minnows when we would chose an animal and they would call out a description of an animal and if it fit ours, we had to run across the field without getting tagged. We then were led to our rooms and given time to get ready for our first hike. I was in the same room as Abby S., Jessie, Kally, Emily .F and Cassidy and I bunked together; she had the top bunk and I had the bottom. We went outside and sat on the stairs while we met another consoler, Gretchen, who also went to Hopkinton when she was a kid. She told as about herself and the hike we would be going on. Then we found out more about the other counselors and found out whose group we were in. I was in Tobys, with my friends Lucy, Abby and Paige. We started our hike to Welton Falls. We stopped at the old cellar from where an old building used to be and sketched it in our sketchbooks. Us hiking was an example of movement and people coming and leaving the lodge was also an example of movement.

We walked some more and then stopped again to look at a tree with an odd gash in it. I remember Jonah, another person from my group, was hanging on to a tree when suddenly, the tree gave out and sent him sprawling backwards. It was pretty funny to watch. As we walked some more, we saw beech trees along with many others. We got to a stream and decided to stop and sketch. I noticed some unique mushrooms and sketched those as well. Toby gave us little nets and told us to look for bugs in the water. We found many odd creatures and sketched them. We then crossed the stream on rocks, which I thought I would slip on but luckily I did not. I tripped later on before we got to the waterfall. That was embarrassing, but pretty funny as well, even though I got dirt all over me. Finally, we were at the waterfall and we stopped to enjoy the scenery and sketch it. But as we were sketching, Lucy dropped her sketchbook and a page flew out, into the water. Toby stood down by the rocks and waited for the water to carry the sketch over, but it was all wet by then. The water from the waterfall is movement because it leaves Cardigan and goes somewhere else. Some other people in my group discovered a salamander near a big tree. On the way back, Toby told as about Indian Cucumbers and we tried some. We saw other people going to and from Cardigan and that is movement as well.

I thought they tasted just like a carrot. The way back was uphill, so my legs were killing me, but Lucy and some other girls in our group made up a song to keep us going. When we got back to the stream, I thought I was going to trip again, but luckily I did not. Paige dropped her water bottle though and Toby had to rescue it. We were the first group back so we all rushed to the showers. After all the other groups returned, we had tacos for dinner and brownies for dessert. But we had to answer trivia questions to see which table could go up, and of course, my group was one of the lasts. We then went outside in the dark and we had to blindfold ourselves, which did not sit well with me. We grabbed on the person's shoulders in front of us and started walking, the only person knowing where we were going was Toby. We had to stop because we walked onto a bush and I got scratched on the hand. At least I did not fall into it like other people did. We played a game in an open space and then Toby told us a pirate story. I then realized I had a stomach ache. We got back to the lodge and got in our pajamas then went downstairs and Mr. Woolner told us a story about the pirate, Blackbeard. We then went to bed, which I was happy about because I was exhausted, but everyone else in my room stayed up late.

We were there on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
